Review of Osama (2004) by Alexander C — 29 Aug 2007
This is on top of my favourite movies list so far. Poetic, complex, powerful and exquisitly planned. As the movie unfolded, I almost felt like I was reading a children literature. However, the impact of the film came long after the end.
It also blew me off learning that the actors were amateurs local Afghans. When you are watching the film, you'd connect with Osama at a very personal and intimate level. Yet, at the end, you realize she is just one of the many girls/women who had been victimized by the Taliban and that her condition is a common tragedy in Afghanistan.
Profoundly sad...It is a film that would leave a permament mark on people's heart.
