Review of Open City (2008) by Michael C — 16 Oct 2006
That's how Italian neorealism started!
The movie was shot in 1945, in Italy! In a country ruined by war; in a country ashamed of its past and of its former allies.
Amazing movie!
Dramatic, touching and very realistic.
Besides, there are many symbols. They are everywhere.
Anna Magnani's and Aldo Fabrizi's performances are brilliant! Such a colossal inner strength and honour in these 2 people.
I admired the episode when Marian Mari (a traitor-actress) fell unconsciousness on the floor and "Manfredi's-blood-price" - that furcoat was carefully taken away ("for the next case"). This is a lesson! This is what usually happens!
A Must-See Movie!
