Review of Oleanna (1994) by Scott C — 09 Mar 2013
Normally, I'm not the biggest David Mamet fan. However, "Oleanna" has an intense wit, a wide vocabulary, controversial subject matter, and a wild ending. The touchy subject of sexual harassment is viewed from both sides of the table: from the perspective of Carol, the said "deranged revolutionary," and John, the accused professor who is about to be tenured.
No actual sense of who is right or wrong is drawn from these characters, which makes the question for the audience all the more perfect for discussion. Though the film adaptation of Mamet's play is a little bit staged, the performances of William H.
Macy and newcomer Debra Eisenstadt are stellar.
