Review of Of Gods and Men (2010) by Brad S — 31 Dec 2011
First I should say I don't think this movie will be for everyone. The pacing is slow and if you're looking for an action\adventure stay far away from this movie. Having said this I loved this movie.
Of Gods and Men takes a look at the real life story of trappist missionary monks living in Albania during a period of significant social unrest. The monks who are surrounded by hostile Islamic fundementalists must decide whether to stay at the parish or go back home to France.
They must also decide who they will help (will they help injured Islamic rebels) and whose help they will except (will they except help from the national army who is largely considered to be corrupt).
The film does an excellent job of portraying the nuiances of an extremely difficult situation. For those who share the Christian faith this movie is a must see there is much in it to ponder, question, and consider.
Well acted, well directed and very inspiring.
