Review of Neverwas (2005) by Zorphie Z — 07 May 2009
A fascinating and thoughtful movie that delves deeply into the interior lives of its characters. Ian McKellen's performance is magnificent, like always. An interesting cast and Phillip Glass' music carried my interest throughout the film as well.
Aaron Eckhart plays a psychiatrist who has worked hard to put his father's suicide behind him, and returns to his hometown in order to serve the institution that failed to effectively treat his dad. However, the dr-patient roles are turned upside-down when he unwillingly is forced to face his childhood, and all the memories he tried so hard to bury with academic study.
About relationships of all kinds and transgressions in them--drs/patients, parents/children, friends/lovers, and the stranger mysteries of the human mind.
