Review of Neds (2010) by Nicholas A — 23 Feb 2011
Mr Mullan can't seem to decide if he wants to be Ken Loach or Lars Von Trier. His mixture of grim realism and random surrealism is too jarring at times. Although having said that, his strange flourishes do constitute the best parts of this film, providing a welcome respite from the uneven and meandering dramatic sections.
So maybe he should head further in that direction and leave Loach to Loach in future.
