Review of My Date with Drew (2005) by Tim E — 17 Sep 2014
What a pleasure this documentary was! You can easily relate with this character : a starving artist in Hollywood struggling with money, with a celebrity crush that has never gone away. He could put his game show winnings towards rent, or take a risk and go on a date with Drew Barrymore.
There was never a dull moment with this movie - you genuinely liked and sympathized with Brian, felt his pain during rejections, and felt just as nervous and elated as he did when he got closer and closer to his objective, the date.
Which one of us hasn't struggled with ordinary life problems that keep us down? Which one of us doesn't have a celebrity crush that will never really go away? Which one of us doesn't want to pursue our dreams, no matter the cost? This movie demonstrates the negative effects and the beauty of taking risks, and reminds us that it's worth taking all the negative blows for the beauty of pursuing our dreams.
A touching, heroic, inspiring film.
