Review of Metropolitan (1990) by Mitch P — 04 Jul 2007
When I was 14 I used to watch this film over and over again. I like the way it has an old time feel about it. Whit Stillman is very good at conveying nostalgia and a sense of lost, even if you were not around to have experience the time (whether it's the bourgeoisie and debutants in "Metropolitan" or the disco clubs in "Last Days of Disco").
The film has elegant music, a witty script and is loosely based on Jane Austin's "Mansfield Park". I enjoy watching the characters and hearing that they have to say but most of all I love Nick.
