Review of Metallica: Some Kind of Monster (2004) by Wade T — 07 Jun 2007
A raw behind-the-curtain expose of Metallica's recording of the St.Anger album. With their band losing a member and their lead singer fighting alcoholism Metallica looked about as dead as a music group could during this time period.
What the filmmakers so amazingly accomplish is being able to humanize the most cliche of subjects, the spoiled rock star. Somehow a group of millionaires deciding if they wish to make more money by putting out another record comes across as human and a real sense of tragedy falls out of their attempts to create a working relationship with each other.
