Review of Mean Creek (2004) by Kelly C — 01 Jan 2009
It is a simple film how one kid (Rory Culkin) comes up with a plan to get revenge on the bully (George) who keeps beating him up. Along the way, Sam's cohorts (and Sam) decide against it. However, George pushes people to their mental and emotional limits and things go south.
The film began in a slow yet methodical way. The characters are each individually flawed: George is a bully, Rory gets picked on, Clyde is teased cuz his folks are homosexual, and so forth. This film is an excellent demonstration of how things can go horribly wrong, how the people you think you know transform into total strangers, and how one action can cost people their lives and futures.
