Review of Maximum Risk (1996) by David G — 01 Mar 2010
Very slow and tedious to begin with but picks up considerably as soon as Van Damme arrives in New York City. The story may be familiar to action movie fans but it keeps you interested and there are some nifty action scenes including several brutal car chases and even more brutal punch-ups.
The characters are hit and miss but as with the story and the film as a whole they do the trick. Along with your usual assortment of larger than life gangster and police figures you have JCVD, who is playing his usual hero - no great departure for him - and Natasha Henstridge, who's the good-looking but bland love interest who reacts to the death of her beloved boyfriend by .
.. acting completely normally. Disposable 90's action-packed fun.
