Review of Manic (2001) by Kyle M — 05 Apr 2008
Of all the movies I've ever seen, this is the best. It's definitely not for everybody, even though it's meant for anybody. It's emotional, it's gritty, it's intense, it's original, it's thought-provoking, and it represents troubled teens in a realistic way, such as the way they talk and the way they act, which is something I greatly respect.
It also doesn't have a fake, optimistic, Hollywood ending where the entire atmosphere changes and everything is happy ever after. The camera work is also great, too, and so is the score, whereas both really match the mood, and definitely the content, of the movie.
Seriously, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, thanks to this movie (and Brick), has now got to be my favorite actor.
