Review of Maiden (2019) by Ginak — 14 Aug 2019
Sometimes you go to a film you know nothing about because it’s a hot day and an adventurous local cinema is showing it. I was floored. This documentary, about the first ever all-female crew to enter the Whitbread Round the World sailing race in 1989, was nothing short of incredible.
First of all, I knew nothing about the race or sailing, so for me the suspense was constant, even though I figured no one would make a documentary about a loser. Thanks to beautifully spaced excellent short interviews with family and friends and loads of actual on-board race footage, the film was riveting.
Highly recommended.
