Review of Looking for Eric (2009) by Richard F — 08 Jun 2009
Like just about every other film ever made that's set in the north of England, Looking for Eric shows us characters going through harsh times and finding ways to overcome them. It feels like it belongs on TV rather than in the cinema but that's Ken Loach.
However, as is typical of the director, the acting and story are solid throughout. I went to a mystery showing otherwise I might not have gone to see it (since I am not bothered about football) but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
The characters are easy to identify with and likeable. Cantona himself is great as the main character's (also called Eric) life coach. It's something a bit different and I'm not sure how popular it will be outside of England/France but it deserves to do well and would stand up to repeat viewing I say.
