Review of Liquid Sky (1982) by Jeff M — 02 Oct 2007
A quite incredible and unique art-house film. Technical faults aside (poor sound quality) it's a beautiful and haunting movie about a New York model from a middle-class background who's become involved in the underground clubs, drugs and sex scene of early 80's NY, living with her abusive drug-dealing girlfriend. Tiny, unscene aliens begin killing her various sex partners during the moment of climax, something she begins to use to her advantage to rid herself those who torment her (including Jimmy, a drugged-up gay model friend played by the same actress, Anne Carlisle in a duel role). Also involved are a German scientist tracking the aliens and Jimmy's mother who helps him.
Visually stunning fantasy with a great new wave soundtrack, some hilarious one liners and brilliant costumes and set design.
