Review of Leviathan (2014) by Felisa Z — 19 Jul 2015
This film is simply a masterpiece and nothing you read about it is correct. The film is the story that happens inside you while you are watching it. Most people who decided that it is just about the Russian political situation - did not dig deep enough.
It is a story of the epic and Biblical proportions, it just happens on the Russian soil, but only because the author lives in Russia. The same could have happened in any country in the world. In fact it was inspired by an American real life story from newspapers.
If you watch the film and leave thinking: "oh, good that I don't live in Russia" - then you have not understood the film. It is about humanity, not a geographical location.
