Review of Le Cercle Rouge (1970) by Patrick D — 16 Jun 2008
I'm sorry Quentin Tarantino, as much as I love your films, Jean-Pierre Melville is the granddaddy of the crime film. The atmosphere, the tension, the perfect actors (the coolest of the cool Alain Delon is accompanied this time by Yves Montand and Gian Maria Volonte fresh from his spaghetti western days with Clint and Tomas Milian) and an ending that seems antithetic to everything going on during this era of filmmaking, Le Cercle Rouge is a film that has to be seen before you die, at least 100 times.
