Review of La Ronde (1950) by Chris H — 02 Oct 2008
The narrator who guides us through this film is not in Schnitzler's play, and presumably that worked well when performed (in that it was comprehensible), so why put this guy in the film? Also from time to time it keeps jumping back to previous characters, when in the play we revisit none of them (except of course the prostitute).
I can see why the play was recieved with riots upon some of it's first showings as the whole thing seems to imply that it is human nature to cheat and not be faithful (in the film the narrator claims 'It is a game we are all playing').
Taken as an interesting work of Schnitzler's though I believe there are merits to it. Other than the unnecessary things above, a good/not great adaption of Schnitzler's play.
