Review of Johnny Belinda (1948) by Darryl C — 25 Jan 2008
This is the film that cemented wyman as an actress of note in films. she, ayres, bickford, moorehead, sterling and mcnally do some subtle work in their roles.
And negulesco fills the screen with many moments that play with no dialogue as a reminder of whose story this is. visually, it is just as beautiful as laughton's night of the hunter. and the score--classic heart-tugging melodies by meister max steiner.
As some sort of testament to its greatness, this film was remade unsuccessfully with rosanna arquette and richard thomas in the leads.
