Review of In the Mood for Love (2000) by Evan M — 03 Jun 2008
In my mind In the Mood for Love ranks among the top ten films of the decade (along with its sequel 2046). Wong Kar Wai tells the story of two people who love each other, but will not accept their love, living a life of repression and denial.
A near-perfect film that completely envelops the viewer in its haunting visuals, music, and rythm. A supreme statement about the past, regret, and the things we wish we could have back, few films about love are as effective as this one.
An achivement of pure cinema that could never be expressed in another medium. If not in my top ten, it's very very close.
