Review of Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959) by Richard D — 09 Feb 2008
This is what cinema is all about. The first section of the film, with the lover's embrace being intercut with documentary footage of the Hiroshima aftermath, buildings and memorial exhibitions is breathtaking and mesmeric, with the music, dialogue and image all beautifully complementing each other.
Its hard to beleive that this is a first film too, with Resnais' authorial preoccupation with tragedy memory time and love being incoporated into the narrative. Watch it now!
