Review of Helvetica (2007) by Stephanie A — 18 Apr 2009
I've been a designer for 18 years, and this movie explained my early distain for Helvetica that has evolved to complete loyalty to it - to the exclusion of all other typefaces. I related to all points of view expressed here, as I've moved through them all.
Right now, my summation is that Helvetica is THE typeface for visual communication, because all others distract from the message, rather than deliver it. This movie was jaw-droppingly fascinating to someone who's spent thousands of hours contemplating how type can successfully message.
