Review of Hellraiser: Deader (2005) by Paulysses H — 20 May 2008
This entry in the Hellraiser serie is not the scariest and not at all faithful to the initial Hellraiser concept (just like Hellraiser 5, for instance), but it is by far the most disturbing (isn't it Saw-like ?).
The storyline progresses very slowly, leads nowhere (the psychological inner hell has been used two times before, it's getting old), the decadent atmosphere is just a pretense to show violence and sex, and the ending is incoherent.
I think it should have been a standalone movie because there is just about no connection to the Hellraiser universe (save for one character paying minimal lip service to previous movies). What is weird is that with this 7th Hellraiser movie, it is getting hard to tell what truly is Hellraiser and what is not, because movies loosely, very loosely based on the Hellraiser universe actually outnumber the initial (genuine) trilogy.
