Review of Harakiri (1962) by Burton — 16 Jul 2007
Simply the best, most emotionally involved jidai geki (and film in general, samurai or not) I've ever seen.
Intensely dark, and extremely intense. The film broods for almost two hours, and in the last 15-20 minutes it explodes violently.
The film is a slow mover, but at no point is this an issue as the story is so compelling that the viewer becomes completely wrapped up.
I recommend this to everyone.
