Review of Gunner Palace (2004) by Wes B — 21 Mar 2005
Theater First Viewing, 1 Epperlein & Tucker film seen.
Gunner Palace is a film that documents the experience of a soldier in the war on Iraq. It manages to push politics aside and give a straight story like its tagline suggests: "Some war stories will never make the nightly news." I appreciated the film for its importance of visually capturing such a vivid depiction of minor combat, but I just wish that it was a little more engaging and focused. Perhaps PBS will get their hands on it and play it a few months before it comes out on DVD (like they have done with many other documentaries).
