Review of French Cancan (1955) by John M — 17 Nov 2008
The French have a particular brand of comedy, and a particular brand of musical, so one should expect nothing conventional of a musical comedy by the great Jean Renoir. Solid acting all around, even from the incidentals crowding the margins of the frame.
The plot nominally concerns the opening of the Moulin Rouge, but the story really concerns the artists and their commitment to their craft.
