Review of Four Daughters (1938) by Bobby D — 23 Feb 2010
If you can keep up the with the fast and tight 1930's style WB dialogue you'll this drama/comedy about 4 musical daughters who have Claude Rains as the conductor/composer Dad who lives in 30's ville and of course the abundant male suitors ringing the door bell.
It's funny that in this era WB's big money makers were the Gangster films and for whatever reason te writers found a way to catch that vibe with one of the guys pre-James Dean: actor John Garfield a drifter piano player who elopes with the youngest daughter on her wedding day to his best friend.
Of course she's still really in love with the other guys and since Garfield's the "villain" and a 1930's divorce is out of the question, Garfield plows his car into a tree and dies.
A happy ending for everybody. Seriously, it ends with a happy ending soon after the accident.
