Review of Female (1933) by Nick M — 23 Apr 2008
I love pre-codes and I love pre-codes with Ruth Chatterton in them. Seeing Chatterton in a movie, unfortunately a mostly forgotten actress, is like discovering a hidden treasure. Despite the safe ending I like to think, and I believe many others would see it this way, that eventually her true nature would re-assert itself.
There is no way that the character and more over Chatterton's characterization of her could be content as a by stander. One thing though, that I'll never understand, is this idea that George Brent was something for women to fall over themselves for.
I mean since when is lameness an attractive quality?
