Review of Fear and Desire (1953) by Greg M — 12 Sep 2010
Feeling at times like a long Twilight Zone episode, Kubrick's first feature ambitiously tackles anti-war themes later echoed far more successfully in Paths of Glory, Dr. Strangelove, and Full Metal Jacket.
Though the film suffers from pretentious dialog and inner monologues, it is nonetheless interesting as a harbinger of future thematic obsessions and visual styles.
