Review of Fear and Desire (1953) by Owen J — 27 May 2013
This is where Kubrick had started off his career, and it contains a lot of themes that he would explore in a lot of his later films in a amateurish and rudimentary form. The movie did show signs that he would go on to be a great visionary though, and when I watched this I could anticipate the makings of a legend.
The movie plotwise was something that had been used time and time agaion and if it was someone like Bay directing could have turned into an action flick but Kubrick saw it had the space to be a perfect case scenario for deconstructing the characters. He has.
