Review of Factotum (2005) by Kevin H — 12 Jun 2007
It isn't the best movie ever made. But I got a soft spot for hilarious writerly movies, especially when they involve heavy drinking, punching people, and general disdain for the prevalent popular opinions of society.
After this I read most of Bukowski's novels and though this is loosely adapted from the novel of the same name, it turns out that this book is one of his worst, though it was nevertheless hilarious.
Still, this movie captures the essence of Bukowski very well, and is considerably better than Barfly, which Bukowski wrote the script for. And Matt Dillon is a great Henry Chinaski, much better than his previous incarnation in Barfly by Mickery Rourke.
Either way, this is not for everyone but I dug it. If they ever make a movie out of Post Office I will laugh my balls off.
