This is not a film for you if you don't have a strong stomach. If you appreciate films that are challenging and the actions of its protagonists are not always clear then this could be for you.

Following Bill Macy's Edmond on a night out in the seedy parts of town is compelling stuff. At the start of the film he has a chance meeting with a fortune teller which leads to him walking out on his wife and into the night. The assorted deadbeats that he encounters in an effort to get laid make for uncomfortable viewing. Ultimately his actions lead to tragedy for which he will pay a heavy price.

Bill Macy is exceptional in this. Watching him change from the mild mannered man he is at the beginning to the lunatic he becomes is spellbinding stuff. Add in Mamet's dialogue and a host of great actor's including Fat Tony himself makes for a good viewing.
