Review of Eating Raoul (1982) by Cj C — 20 Jun 2006
The Blands (Mary Wornonov and Paul Bartel) have ambitions to open their own restaurant but they are strapped for cash and unable to obtain a loan from the bank. However, when they kill an over zealous swinger from a party next-door and empty his wallet, they quickly realise that they've found a sure-fire way of raising the necessary cash. All goes well until shady Latino "locksmith" called Raoul (Robert Beltran) comes on the scene....
This is solid black comedy was brought to the big screen by the late, great Paul Bartel and it carries his unique twisted traits. The comedy on offer here may not be to everyone's taste but Bartel manages to keep things light hearted with a tongue-in-cheek script and a barrage of one-liners. Worth a rent.
