Review of Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (1956) by Matt H — 01 Nov 2010
One of dadâ(TM)s favorite sci-fi films that Jenny and I watched with him on Halloween. The movie is a little dated but it is still fun. The HD remaster looks amazing, and even the special effects hold up pretty well for being over 50 years old.
The acting is horrible, but that is what makes the movie fun. This film has inspired countless Hollywood movies, the most obvious being Independence Day (the film shows famous landmarks getting destroyed by the alien ships) The films intro is like a Twilight Zone episode, the actors say unnecessary lines just so everyone knows what is going on.
By todayâ(TM)s standards the movie is very campy, but it is a great Sunday afternoon movie.
