Review of Dream Home (2010) by Jacob G — 07 Oct 2012
I guess the good outweighs the bad--most of the movie feels like an incomprehensible sequence of scenes bouncing back and forth in time. It all comes together in the end, but getting there is rough. If the flashbacks were organized in an easier-to-understand manner, this could rank higher.
Half of this movie is gruesome slasher--however, unlike most slasher fare where we see things from the viewpoint of the victims and empathize with them, we see these from the viewpoint of the bad guy.
While the perspective feels fresh (especially coupled with the bad guy's backstory to try and help key the viewer into the rationale), it also lends the violence a starkly sadistic bend. This is an uncomfortable movie both violent-wise, and storytellingwise, and otherwise.
