Review of Dolores Claiborne (1995) by Jeff G — 03 Jan 2009
I consider this movie a rare gem. The murder mystery was merely a vehicle to uncover the dark family secrets forgotten and the wounds never healed. There's so much pain and guilt in all of the 3 women in this movie, hiding underneath what they try to pretend to be their hearts of stone.
The nonlinear storytelling and flashback editing are very effective here. The male characters in the movie are a bit one-dimensional but that's OK because the female characters here are anything but, and all of them are presented with a great deal of underlying emotional depth.
