Review of Day for Night (1973) by Rod A — 26 Nov 2009
Metaphysically, Day for Night explores the notion of which is more real, the world of film or the world of life. This film has so many beautiful moments of humanity, an aging, insecure actress repeatedly forgetting her lines, a determined "continuity girl" who executes her job with precision yet takes time for a quick roll in the hay with a prop boy.
By all accounts, Truffaut had time for little else besides the movies. I was struck by the resembles of the spirit of this film to that of Altman's Nashville. Day for Night is a much smaller and quieter film.
Its richness is completely refreshing.
