Review of Cthulhu (2008) by Dante R — 11 Apr 2009
I think this is probably the best effort at a serious Lovecraft adaptation I've seen, most of the other adaptations tend to be small budget cheesy gorefests, while this, on the contrary, has some actual substance to it I think.
The performances all round are good and there is some great cinematography of the coastline and the sea. While the likes of re-animator and from beyond are good in their own way I'm glad to finally see a serious effort at a good story, good acting and a decent all round film, the pace may be a little slow to begin with but I'd recommend this for Lovecraft fans.
Oh, obviously the title is wrong as the film is based on Shadow Over Innsmouth but what can you do, 2001's Dagon had the same problem.
