Review of Cracks (2009) by Narges M — 22 Jun 2010
Jordan "daughter of Ridley" Scott directs this story of obsession and delusion in a 30s private boarding school. The cast are all great, and Scott shows all the attention to detail and visual sense of her father.
it's a curious mix of "Belles of St Trinians" style hi-jinx, a dark edge of sexual obsession with an air of "Picnic at Hanging Rock" mystery. It veers very close to melodrama at times, and I didn't feel there was quite enough psychological insight into Green's character to fully appreciate her motivations which results in a slightly superficial sense of character.
Some good things going for it, and it does conjure a vivid mood and some memorable moments.
