Review of C.O.G. (2013) by Robert I — 01 Oct 2013
An interesting movie but a failed translation of the short story. The subtext and irony that develop into an epiphany in the book are lost in this medium, leaving the viewer confused and just sad from the one-dimensional story telling.
The actors are too attractive for their roles, key elements that drive the short story are never revealed here in the movie, so that when key emotional moments are brought forward, the reason is lost and the outcome is out of character.
If this was C.O.G. by Sylvia Plath I would have been prepared, otherwise I think the source should be set aside and just let the characters wallow in their hopelessness.
