Review of Coffin Rock (2009) by Martin K — 19 Oct 2009
I don't know if infertility horror is likely to catch on as a subgenre, though it gives writer-director Glasson a whole new set of murderous frustrations and humiliations to play with: the shoebox full of negative pregnancy tests is a novel prop.
Some of the cliches of the late 80s/early 90s psychothriller are still knocking around here - there looks to be an early bath for our heroine's flirty best friend, and instead of bunny-boiling, we get kangaroo-bashing (how Antipodean is that?) - but there's nicely harassed work from Chappell as a woman forced to carry her terrible secret inside of her, and from Taylor as a big lug whose very masculinity comes under threat, while Glasson sketches in around them a small community populated by fallible, credible, flesh-and-blood characters.
