Review of Cobra Verde (1987) by Leia C — 21 Sep 2007
Probably the weakest of the Herzog-Kinski collaborations, it nonetheless showcases Kinski's characteristic intensity (with some worthwhile "crazy Klaus" moments) and Herzog's terrific photographic eye and tendency toward epic, reflective shots (if you could call a death scene "gorgeous," the one at the end certainly is).
Some parts were rather slow, but others--like da Silva's leading the topless African warrior-women in battle, or the chorus of young "nuns"--were captivating.
