Review of Ciao! Manhattan (1973) by Owen C — 10 Feb 2008
Certainly a strange film, particularly because it incorporates Edie's real life death. Parts of this are fantastic, as we shift through this dreamlike past full of archive footage and bizarre fabricated surveillance.
What's sad is that it doesn't appear that Edie is acting throughout any of the "now" parts. She stumbles around, half naked, tripping over herself, mumbling and shouting and drifting off into bizarre tangents on her past, and somehow I just can't see her being that good of an actress.
Overall, however, the film does have some weak parts, as it gets a bit draggy and repetitive here and there. It's good enough if your interested in The Factory people, this is an interesting and fairly honest look at what happens after a life of 24 hour partying a heavy drug usage.
