Review of Charisma (1999) by Mattias E — 30 Dec 2008
Charisma marks Kurosawa Kiyoshi's fist tentative venture outside genre constrictions and a chance for the director to really get loose. The result is a heavily symbolic, narratively incoherent, absurd dark comedy.
Weirdly enough it's also decidedly lighter in tone than any of Kurosawa's heavier genrepieces.
