Review of Cell (2016) by Tyler S — 05 Jul 2016
Cell is a surprisingly good zombie movie that blends in some sci fi and takes advantage of the fact that the genre has been well-explored recently by trimming away most of the fat and giving fans what they want.
Which is not to say the film is non-stop, senseless violence, but it doesn't waste much time explaining itself. The last third could have even been longer, but Cell still accomplishes its goals, with just the right amount of absurdity, humor, violence, emotion, and social commentary true fans have come to expect from zombie films.
It doesn't exactly break new ground, but watching Cusack and Jackson navigate their way through the apocalypse is more than enough to satisfy.
