Review of Carrington (1995) by Paul K — 25 Apr 2009
Very well-acted British period piece/biographical drama. It's like watching a dance. The characters look at each other, move toward each other, dance together, step on toes and move apart, come back together.
And as long as you're mesmerized by the elegant sets and orchestral background, you notice the passage of time more than a lack of development or real knowledge of the characters' inner workings, which perhaps is all we can hope for in a movie that seeks to portray historical (and privately public) figures.
Each scene is itself a painting based on a bit of knowledge about a person at a moment of their life.
