Review of Bruiser (2000) by Terri H — 03 Jan 2009
George A. Romero's "Bruiser" plays out like it could have been his installment for a "Masters of Horror" episode. It is one of his weaker films - there's nothing profound here despite a few spooky visuals.
I'm not saying that horror always has to be profound, but that's what I've come to appreciate most about many of Romero's previous efforts in addition to his stylish direction. He manages to make a relevant statement within his horror that's unique and refreshing, and he makes it look cool in the process.
"Bruiser," on the other hand, just feels uninspired and tedious.
