Review of Brave Story (2006) by Ripple C — 01 Jan 2009

This is a reasonably strong anime fantasy-adventure film. In typical Japanese fashion, it's a bit on the surreal side (but not overly) and has a totally overdone dramatic ending. There's a few examples of dodgey 3D CGI, but otherwise it's quite lush and lovely to look at.

Brave Story is a weird title -- maybe it loses something in translation. For much of the film, the hero, Wataru, is wearing a dorky looking helmet thing, which I got the impression was meant to look kinda cool -- maybe Japanese audiences perceive it differently.

I was gonna give it 3.5 stars, but there is a gorgeous cat-girl in it... so i'll give it 4 ;).
