Review of Big Bang Love, Juvenile A (2006) by Deni S — 15 Aug 2007
Not a film for Joe/Joan average-moviergoer. Miike's most sophisticated and poetic work so far, expect an oscar or palm d'or for this man soon. The plot twists and jumps back and forth in time to tell the story of a murder investigation within a very stylized prison.
Each frame is gorgeous in this simple yet labyrinthian tale that could easily be performed as a stage play. Although definitely for the art house crowd Miike exposes his themes through images and situations rather than words (unlike Tarkovsky's constantly rambling characters).
Once again Miike explores the absurdity of man (sorry ladies not much for you in Miike's world) and our purpose or lack there of in this strange new world. "What kind of man do you want to be?".
