Review of Barton Fink (1991) by Randi M — 14 Nov 2009
Just rewatched after many years. Amazing movie, like nothing you've ever seen. Funny and horrifying at the same time. John Goodman is awesome and John Turturro is perfect. Tony Shalhoub is almost unrecognizable but great in a cartoonish role.
Michael Lerner as the studio head was excellent. The Barton Fink character is based on Clifford Odets, a playwright and film writer during that time. John Mahoney is supposed to be playing a William Faulkner type.
Both Johns look eerily like the real-life people they are playing.
